Christman, John 1963 27 Journal 21 June Washes Canyon 8,100 ft., Spring Mtus., Clark G., Nevada. bird, & not high & sharp. The Acer I refer to is probably a. glabrum. There is also a Sambucus here - saw one cluster of immature flowers. Most individuals are shrubs and show heavy branching or other forms of vegetative distraction. The species is probably 22 June Hunted in a small side canyon below camp and down the main canyon. Audibson Warblers abundant, only one pair of warbling Vireos, and few Empidonax here. Several pairs of Bluebirds. Chat a pair of pygmy nuthatches. A windy afternoon. To Las Vegas for supplies in late after- noon. Clear, cool in canyon. 2 Cows of Cougars. 23 June Sunday chores. Campers gone. Clear, warm and very windy - from every direction. The wind is clear so hard that mature ponderosas are swaying - haven't heard any seed cones going down yet. At 3:00 p.m. went about camp & down canyon hunting. Shot two juncos about camp few yds. apart, but one hour apart - pair - ? Only a few junco came to spring. Wind so heavy that there is little bird activity. At 6:30p.m. we heard a crossbill- shot it in top of tall young fir across spring. Weller, time getting is down! There is some, the not much evidence of peregrines in this canyon - no where near as much as in the Sheep Range. Saw some lizards digging high in a side canyon yesterday. Saw one isolated area today 300 yds.
