12 June Hidden Forest, 7,900 ft., Sheep Range, Clark Co., Nev.
No response to squeals - same and miles had trouble with! Near cabin tried Worms Owl - no response. Except for infrequent calls from other birds, the violet-green swallows are the most active (less obviously vocal than) up until about 8:30. Thrushes sing until about 8-8:15 p.m.
Pomwills start at 8:40 p.m., stars out at 8:50
Cabin at 9; & 50° F. no wind. Today has been clear & relatively warm - mid 60's. Very strong winds in mid-afternoon. Have not seen any bats in the evening light.
13 June A fine warm day with Cumulus of & on and off strong wind. Worked the lower canyon - saw a Red-tailed Hawk flying low over the N. facing slope. The Nuttallornis was shot from a lower limb of a pine over a dry stream bed & Rabbit brush - did not sing. Swallows shot in opening in forest.
Tawaga in stream bed - low, on log; same area as above flycatcher. The three warblers were shot within 520 yds of each other between 11 and 12 p.m. The ? yellow throat was quieter in Rabbit's Brush in stream bed in exposed situation.
