christmas, Iowa 1963 Journal 11 June Hidden Forest Canyon, Sheep Range, Clark Co., Nev. rather thoroughly. Noted: heard flicker - shot a J Bluebird from a snag. Shot a J Audubon Warbler which thrashed about briefly; immediately a cluckadee in a mid-aged fir started calling - soon Bl. thr. gray warblers, Kinglets, pygmy nuthatches joined in. I helped with screech and calls & squeaks; a creeper joined this mess & got in also. A few Empidonax & Chipping Sparrows. Got back into the main canyon via a series of draws clothed with a dense forest of tall, old piyon & juniper. Only noted are Empidonax (.39 didn't please it) & Bl. thr. gray warbler. Back to main canyon - as I entered camp a bandtailed pigeon took off from the area in front of the cabin. Gave it a load of 4's as it took off - it hit in a snag close by where 6's finished him off. It is an immature. The skull had two small "uncus"; The crop and proventriculus were empty; the gizzard had numerous pieces of small stones and/or small bits of hard seed - nothing identifiable - all were stained a brighter green. The liver had no fat. A female - away 3 x 2 mm and very minutely granular. A clear cool evening - very dark. No luck with fox and hunters. The nights are very often sharply cold and windy - with music or calls.
