Christensen, S. M., 1963 Journal 7 June Hidden Forest, 7,900 ft., Sheep Range, Marble, Colo. Snow stopped at 2 p.m.; Ned returned from Lookout about 3:15 p.m. with Alden Miller. Hansen left this a.m., clear, cold in evening. 8 June Wake up to a clear morning with frost on everything @ 24° F at about 6 a.m. At 7 a.m. walked up the ridge to the NW - 500 yards & then up ridge to head of canyon to the W. And an damn, that one thrusts on ridge. At the mouth of the canyon I heard nutcrackers and what sounded like a Stellar Jay - but this is an open question. With a combination of screech owl call and squeals got a gang warbling - almost entirely chickadees, piny & white-breasted nuthatch, audubon and BL-thr. Inay markblers, one thrusts. The Perrin thrushs these are very frighty & it is difficult to approach closer than 30 or 50 yds., but they are very curious & often came flying in to squeals and owl calls. Missed a hairy woodpecker. Came down canyon to main canyon below aspen grove. At 4:00 p.m. I went down to aspen grove & went up the talus slope (NE facing) squeaks & screech owl brought in a Broad-tailed Hammer, white-breasted nuthatch & an Empidonax. Near aspen area slat a Creeper on pole sized ponderosa. That pair of W. bluebirds, could only retrieve 9; they were on jimpas snag on S. facing slope - at 6 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. Slew a jack rabbit near the spring. This evening helped me remove 2 Old Man Rabies from right next below camp.
