Christensen, J. V. 1963 Journal 6 June Hidden Forest 7900 ft. Sheep Range Clark Co. Nevada light, calm. Not brought in a whip-poor-will - with part of tail missing, blood on wing & #? stab in the body. Mystery & opossum accounted for. C. G. Nansen made an interesting comment this evening = the "pick-up" skulls of bighorn sheep in the entire range have certain horn sheath except at the N. end of the range where rodents eat the horn sheath - a food deficiency? He has gone riding nearly everyday since we arrived. Snow late in evening. 7 June Worked over area about the spring 100 yds N. of camp in hopes of stiring up a whip-poor-will. A number of pygmy owl hatches & BL-ters. Jay Wakes in pines, a black-headed Grosbeak called & sang - a light but persistent snow - most melted when it hit the ground. On dawn Canyon - shot a pair of javasas - retrieved 1, lost 2. The snow fell heavy for 1/2 an hour, obscuring the canyon walls. Went in the chlorothalamos flat - many grateachers, Enspidons (in pines on edge of flat), 9-tailed larches, Clipping Sparrows abundant after Juncas and one house wren. Shot two Piolated Warblers in damp patch of Acee on bank of stream led at base of cliffs - very damp situation. Bush tits seem to be paried up & only flew, watching for creepers - no luck. More chipmunks in rocky areas in flats & hillside dawn Canyon.
