1. Journal 2 June Berkeley, California to Las Vegas, Clark Co., Nevada at 5:30 a.m. Richard Fletcher, Neal K. Johnson and I left Berkeley & proceeded to Reno by Hwy #40 - arrived at 11:15 a.m. Continued down #95, at the junction (1/2 mi.N.) of Nev./Idaho *10 and U.S.95 we picked up night hawk D.O.R., also at this site I saw a mockingbird flying and perching on Tarsa cactus near the highway. We picked up a D.O.R. snake (black & white), near some rocks near the highway in a low area and short mild scrub habitat. The locality is mi. w. on highway from the turn off #95 to Mercury, Nye Co., Nev. The encountered thundershowers periodically from Tuning to Indian Springs with very heavy downpours and puddles in & at the sides of the road. We arrived in Las Vegas at 8:30 p.m. & got a motel. 3 June at 9 a.m. we visited the hq. of Peters Game Range refuge & spoke to Newell Morgan & Charles G. Hansen - in their office in Las Vegas. Hansen will accompany us to our projected camp at Hidden Forest. We drove with Hansen to Corn Springs where we met Mrs. Hansen & looked at their penrod Oris c. nelsoni. Went on dirt road with Hansen to Hidden Forest Canyon & to cabin which is livable. while eating outside near cabin saw a yellow Warbler in a rabbitbrush near us - near shot it with pistol. Went for walk at dusk - a poor will answered my call & lit 3 ft in front of me Several were calling up & down canyon
