13 June Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. to Ely, White Pine Co., Nevada.
Ronald Church & I left Berkeley at 8 a.m. in the International truck; to Sacramento, auto highway 50 on to Nevada.
We ran into cloudy weather beyond Austin, Nev.
With frequent light drizzles to Elko The Nevada darts are green with new growth of shrubs,
grasses & forbs. Many jack rabbits on highways as DOZ's - especially young of the year.
A coal drive all the way. Eat a motel.
14 June 9: a.m. ran into Ward Russell & Red Johnson, exchanged equipment & red headed hooib to Berkeley. After attending to many errands we proceeded to Baker - where we saw Brewer Blackbirds & Starlings in cotton woods (Creeks!)
Then out Lexington Canyon - in latter part of canyon proper we saw a red-tailed hawk, a doe & a newly born fawn and one white-throated Swift.
Our camp is in the bottom of a canyon 50 ups. wide-
squared away in camp. Over cast and cold
15 June The early a.m. - scattered clouds, almost warm - a desced down canyon along the road. This is a riparian situation made up of 75% Populus tremuloides; with white fir forming the remainder of the fairly dense cover with up to 5% Pseudotsuga menziesii
The SE facing slopes are short shrubs - mainly Artemesia tridentula forming the major part of the community - with Juniper & a Pinus as short trees here & there. The N facing slopes are conifer forests. Aspen in leaf -
