Indian Cave, Joshua Tree Nat'l Mon., San Bernardino
Co., Calif. 3,000 ft. While eating lunch about 1 p.m.
we noticed a small grayish rodent come
out of a hole under a shrub (Laurca ?)
35 ft from us and nibbled at the base of a
forb 10" high. After short 5 sec. + dashes the
critter cut the plant down and tossed it -
backwards and head first into the burrow.
No fresh dirt about the hole - color of soil
bleached white-gray decomposed granite.

pacher gopher -
