Lighthouse 1959 Journal 237 29 Nov. Mother Lode Trip 373 Calaveras River small chunks of parkland - many orchards) 379.9 junction with 99-50 parkland - tall palms - lots of palm in town. Thru Stockton onto Hwy*4 393.3 a bunch of swans in a flooded area - many gulls) now driving along dike, all tules and several willows; few cattails in clumps - on edge of dike only. afew Phragmites. 397 "Middle River" - Victory Island water hyacinths in the river! cattails in roadside ditches. Thousands of crows in stubble fields - mile or corn(?) 401 "Old River" Contra Costa Co Line more water hyacinths corn fields! roadside planted Sycamores DOR Jackpells stream side cottonwoods; brush on creeks dikes, willows - along fence lines also. The fields are of short grass & a trash species I don't know - its almost orange - also dull-yellow. Now small farms and orchards. a Sycamore*4 Locust trees along road; walnut groves? Some pepper trees. 406 a turn to the west. many more trees - old farmsteads with date palms, locust, cypress & more pepper trees. Cherb on pump houses fruit orchards. 407 Eucalyptus, tamaracks This is a broad flat land
