Motman 1959 228. Journal 28 Nov. Motherlode Trip 215.0 parkland of deciduous oaks - cleared areas & scrubbing hillsides of live oaks, etc. few pines again - Angora Goats. (presumably chew on sprouting brush!) 217 woodland; grass, many deciduous oaks. P. saliniana - areas of ponderosa. live oaks & small ponderosa plantations. Cercocarpus is the predominant shrub with a minor amount of Photinia). 218 shallow relief - rocky grass - shrubs. Parkland - grass (with young oaks & Cercocarpus invading). partially mature parklands - in the valley floor, while the side of the valley - the slopes are a dry live-oak woodland with P. saliniana. fewer ponderosa) NG-19 N7-1> 219.7 turn off to LoTus, 100 yards more - photo stop - last of rail = Here live oak - P. saliniana and rather stunted (due to grazing ?) Cercocarpus in the grassy area. still ponderosa - even on the flats! Many young trees in grassy areas, especially on edges of the woodland - some mature parkland. 220 Woodland on hill with Ponderosa, some mavgamta & Cercocarpus in patches, some parkland. 222.5 Woodland - ponderosa above all along it on hills. Here the swales - battens of relief are grassy parklands - same cutting in dense parklands.
