Cerocarpus, manzanita and Photinia, P. saliniana; many old orchards; some Barbairis - in bloom! Areas of woodland with brush understorey. Some grassy areas being invaded by shrubs and young oaks, Barbairs 144. Woodland is predominant; with brush, bare areas (grass) & parkland to the NE [across the canyon] DOR Porcupine! > 145.4 photograph up the American River here Yerba Santa & manzanita in the grassy areas. 146.3 Coloma State Historical Monument Several large chaparral patches across the river - pure stands - one to the N the other up the rivers NE. N6 -5 > photographed at monument & as gold -7 discovery site. [a new roll of film] many cottonwoods - conifers farther to the S. 149.1 over the South fork of the American River Chaparral due north, to the west it an area of partially cleared parkland. 151 to the hills of woodland with ponderosa, W & N parkland - grass; clearing 152.3 Oak woodland; ponderosa and Quercus kelloggii groves, more areas of clear Ponderosa with understorey. 6 > 153.2 photo stop - of a south facing slope, stream going back down the road - East - in farmland. The opposite hill open ponderosa forest
