stream 1959 Journal 226. 27 Nov. Mother Lode Trip 110.3 stream side riparian - willow, etc. on East facing hills to [illegible] left a grape of ponderosa; minor brush on ridge to the west - more ponderosa. 69/11/1 woodland - brush to the west & more grapes of ponderosa. Sharp edge of brush to W (left) - more brush on W. ridge & also to the east where it blends into the woodland. This area needs further investigation. 112.3 down hill into a shallow canyon ponderosa plantations in brush 113.2 Cosumnes River - woodland - brush with ponderosa. all of these elements are in pure stands and mixed. more clearing of land for grass? There are the best brush patches die seen on the trip so far. Brush inferior on hills generally - except on W. facing slopes, occasionally groups of ponderosa and sugar pines. P. saliniana is obliquitas 116 up a hill woodland - ponderosa, with extensive clearing & trees. Minor amounts of brush, tho not as solid understory. Willy area of old mature parkland - being filled in with deciduous oaks 118.3 ponderosa - parkland.
