Schuman 1959 26 Nov. Mother Lode Trip I must make changes basic assumptions so that I can go ahead and make my study a practicality. Now let's make a test timing. The first land contact of European man into California was in 1769. That was 190 years ago. Let's take the time period as that of "white mans" era. Now let's also take 190 years of pure Indian era - from 1579 or thereabouts to 1769. All natural factors in such a time period are static let's say. 1. White men altered the Indian environment by his own methods. 2. Did the Indians alter the "natural" landscape? How could they - intentionally and unintentionally. One is management - the other mal practice. 3. What are the methods of historical comparative cultural ecology.
