Sept 1170 Crogmount, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Cal. Today the wild side above the house was burnt - the young Bandarios lived through it. (i.e. they were not burned) Sept. 10 mi. S. Manquille, Yuba Co., Cal. The Cattail Club Rt. Middlekoff, Stayker, Pete Schram, Mike Fantrelli, Dick [illegible], George Bryan & I work hard- do the Coburn Haskell Ranch - "Cobie" - Geese Mallards & green wings - shrike eared owls at late evening - found some fresh puff ball mushrooms - Mike, cooked them up & they were excellent. We found a nearly killed gallinule - hit a fence. Pair of y-b magpies - she nest in cattawoods. The recent hard storms downed much of the rice outside of Sacramento - there were many cumulus culds both deep but no rain - just right temperature for hard work, no shorebird or club but one caspian tern & dunbars in bare rice - channel areas N of Sacramento, South winds. Returned Sunday - noticed more Erigowon asciculation "bluebeard" on road cuts NE of Vallejo on Hwyco #40, this is fascinating. Am astonished by the road side Eschari along roads - outside of the fences - same as I huge if soy allusial - orchard land! in this area (to Vacaville) there are many old barns & depapertate orchards. The road crossing 1 mi. E. is Hoffman (E-W) & 40 Mile Rd. (N-S)
