Listman 1959 202 Sept. Left Boonville at 8:45 p.m., Mendocino Co., Cal. in a general direction which continued 3/4 of the way to Cloverdale. The country remains open woodland to the NE and coniferous forests to the SW. This may be a function of exposure but I don't think all of it is - there are old remnant canifers to the N.E.. This area needs a closer examination. A few light sprinkles between Cloverdale & Healds- hurg. On to Santa Rosa & off onto Hwy # 12 Beyond Kenwood (58926.2) blackfaced sheep and a stone fence. Sugar loaf ridge behind - the hills are oak & chaparral with some spots of canifers - even on flats as near the Salvation winery. Area of turkeys. a mile more & turn off to the W. to Glen Ellen - a small almost characterless town of oaks & some bush. On down Arnold Drive. to Sanoma. The area is d residences, old olive groves, ancient Cypresses & rolling oak hills with some grasses. The surge of urbanization has almost joined - its fairly open from the Calistoga turnoff to Glen Ellen. At Sanoma I visited the Vallejo home (State Historical Monument) - collected seeds from a honey locust near the front porch - took many photos. Noon continued on 12-37 toward Napa. (936) One stone fence on 12-37 - some board fences - mainly grassy hills. The only places where Baccharis grows is on the out side of the fences - (937)
