Hwy 40 to Truckee 183 dense forest conditions 184 4,000 ft. lots of *Lithocedrus*, dogwood. poor forestry practices slats of deadwood Q. kelloggii in fresh leaf up hill & bare in lower areas - [here] Low shrubs 6"-1 ft. oak oaks & pine seedlings. 186 fresh snow - cloudy Extensive open brush field 189 Tahoe Nat'l Forest 190 Blue Canyon turnoff not snowing but clouding in. Emigrant Gap open pine, fir, *Lithocedrus* forest, lots of seedlings & oaks 196 Nevada Co. Line 201 Cisco Drawing We had to put in chains from Parker to Truckee; the east side with no snow falling, cool, same blue sky'd to the east. Turned off onto Hwy #89 to Sierraville - an area of conifer forests & artemia. The Sierraville-Layton area is a broad flat grassy valley with much water - the hill sides are junipers, some pine & E more QW of the valley. There is much water, = catkins, yellow-head, edging & Brea blackbirds some ducks. with Jerry Burelle & family - Jerry's wife's father is Mr. William Capron who'd interviewed? Lots of good areas to look into. Left at about 5 pm. Sacramento at 8 p.m. no chains or rain
