Westman 1959 Journal 171 10 Apr. Yreba Area, [illegible] Siskiyan County, Calif. The road runs along the N. side of the Klamath River. 478.5 photo of Black Mt to S. 480.5 Across a one lane wooden bridge onto the hill on S. shore & dirt road. Stopped & photos up Canyon. Collected Juniper and ceanothus here, plus stuff from an old fruit tree. Saw a large Osprey hauering over the river - in next half hour it had worked down to Hwy #99. The end primaries were separate & bent up. The area here is predominately oak - still deciduous and fewer ponderosa and juniper - afew Artemisia- collected here. Turned around about 82 at stream - heard a frog, hunted but no luck? Short green grass everywhere. The country to East opens up with only rolling hills and no great amount of tree growth. 496 back at Rainbrooks - a filthy, degenerate hole of old building, saw & people - dogs on streets & only one new building- tiny & a barbershop-beauty shop! 488 back on to Hwy #99 and mine. Strong winds from W. - high feathery clouds, hazy Osprey seen again. Cotton woods & perhaps (?) alder along the river. a few riverside benches are famed- near the upper end of valley Canyon. Fruit trees evident. Cattle nearby on hills 93 Crossed Klamath & back to Yreba & the Graystone Hotel $5.50 at 5:30 & dinner 1.24.
