Siskiyou
Apr.
Yreka & N. on Hwy # 99, Siskiyou County, Caly.
460 Cottonwood Creek
63.3 up avenue pass & under RR tunnel
into an open transition area)
65 Hill one mile to W. A tall snaky peak to
the NW in Oregon is very prominent.
Mt Shasta is seen behind Black Mt
jumpers - grasses oaks
466.5 Oregon state line - I turned around
470 little Artemisia here & since Yreka -
never 1/2 cover as a dominant - the
dominant brush is Ceanothus.
471.8 Cottonwood Cr.
472.6 road to E. where I turn off to photo
most of the Ceanothus is in bloom.
Erratic & periodic bands of ponderosa
fingers down into the valley from the hill
to the west. It appears in canyons
but I believe that the pines have been
logged out of here
475.2 Klamath River; turned off 99 & off onto
secondary road going up river - where
it opens into a broad shallow valley
with low hills of brush & some jumpers
to N. and brush-oak slopes of Black Mt.
which rises abruptly to the S side of the
river. A few sycamores in riparian area
but no club where 'natural' - only in
small groves at edge of river. This
riparian growth is no more than 10-50'
at most wide - most about 25'. Predominate
is the willow
77.2 Northrock - across river & RR tracks, past
2 small mills and paved road to E.
