Yreka, Shasta Co., and north on Hwy #99
The hills NW of town are covered with brush - mainly
cleanthus; conifers spotty except at higher
elevations and many bare areas.
Dense willow riparian areas)
Jumipers dot country to the east and oaks
are everywhere - None of the oaks in the
Shasta River drainage are even leafed out -
thus it is hard to identify them.
449. 3 a large suspension bridge over the
Shasta Rive The hillside are covered
with brush - mainly ceanothus in
bloom; some ponderosa but not
much, at roadside a small patch of
yerba santa in disturbed area - none
other seen. Oaks are abundant on
hill sides - very dry. This is a deep
canyon of dark rocks.
451. 4 Crossed the Klamath R. & turn off down
river to Happy Camp etc.
This looks very much like the old photo I
saw in Bancroft - I believe it was
taken down the river several miles from
here.
Swallows (motel etc.) elev. 2,000'
457 into a rolling river valley with pines
junipers and brush - up a tributary of
the Klamath.
