Westman 1959 168 10 Apr old Ziziphus Edgewood to Yreka G., northon Hayes. 99 416.6 horizon 99 & out onto gently rolling plain - 417 This area has several rounded hill cells with conifer - pp. and small canyons - many acres areas of lamprose, Angus cattle, stone & log-Kentucky fences. Stopped 419.0 to photograph N approaches to Entrada. Meadowlark, Artemisia, bunch grass. To NE no trees are seen. isolated areas show clumps of short sage-dense 419.5 small area - dogan or so supranores and across road to SW an old orchard, no house. 422 tall (4' +) bunch grass outside of fence - yellow & dead, rank growth. isolated black rock ridges with the first junipers. 423.9 Gazelle 26 irrigated pastures and grain. low hills rangeland with 2' high Artemisia Conifer damn hills to west and very spotty on low hills to the east. Cattle everywhere, especially fine feeding Angus - a few sheep. 433 Grenada - one mile off the road to the E. 435 a weird area dense groves of what appears to be oaks - many small (-2' in diam.) dense groves also pandorosa, juniper and shrub - most of which is manzanita & transition type. 437.7 a small area in a broad meadow just off road to SW which has Mima mounds. This valley is a paradise of Transition to the west and Great Basin to the east. 441 Yreka - smoky from four lumber mills
