NAM Verleek 1966 Tryngites subaureicollis 13 Aug. Steve found one of these birds today and called me over to see it. It was a juvenile with yellow legs, a bulky head and neck, and dark scales on the back and wings. The bird was of Pectoral Sandpiper size and the latter species was nearby in comparison. The head of the bird reminded Steve of that of a pigeon, while I noted its plower like habit of walking and standing, although this habit was not as rigid as in a real plower. Steve found the bird at Gas mine Ridge. 15 Aug. Steve shot a juvenile male today.
