Chatter, J. 1940 Itinerary Murphy's Ranch, 3 mi W H Reyes Hill, Marin Co., Calif for lunch. Returned about 3 p.m. July 9 (continued) to inspect traps and set more and 1 Hyplodontia was taken (prepared by P. Hendrickson), (Benson, Hendrickson and I set 13 traps in all at this place. 2 gopher sets were made on way back to camp. 30 more snag traps were set out in boggy ground in canyon bottom (soil was wet and boggy here). July 10 a.m. Trap lines were taken up. Catch was as follows: In steel pets were taken 2 Sylviolaus bachmani and 2 Hyplodontia (all taken in burrows) Snag traps contained 1 Sorex vagrans and 2 Sorex townbridgii - 1 Neotrichas was taken in edge and bunchgrass on boggy wet ground. 1 Thomomys bottae was taken in gopher sets. p.m. Camp was broken and we moved to 5 mi. NNE Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, Marin Co., Calif. which is grassy rolling hill country at edge of ocean. Sand dunes covered with lupine, grass and various fleshy plants extend a short distance back from the shore and the hills are covered with bunchgrass, Carex and grass, 120 snag traps and 2 gopher sets were placed so as to sample the various habitats.
