Itinerary
Murphy's Ranch, 3/2 mi. W Pt Reyes Hill, Marin Co., Calif.
July 8 - In company with Seth Benson and Preston Hendrickson left Berkeley at about 9:30 am.
We drove to San Rafael via Richmond -> S.R. Jerry and purchased supplies there. From there we drove thru Inverness to Dr.
Uttinger's ranch house at crest of Inverness ridge (3 mi. W Inverness) At this time Mr. Uttinger was not in so permission to camp could not be obtained. Consequentially we followed the road on down for about 1 mile and turned left (South) on a dirt road leading to Murphy's ranch. This ranch embracing about 10,000 acres while owned by Murphy is leased to a hunting club with headquarters in San Francisco for deer and quail hunting privileges. We made a temporary camp about 500 yds W of the ranch house in a small canyon at the head of a small inlet of the coastal embayment. The surrounding hills are brush covered with grassland and cultivated pastures adjoining.
A small creek flows down the canyon making a boggy ledge filled bottom about 25 yds across and 200 yds in length.
About 80 small snap traps were set out in this creek bottom area in
