ttin, J.E. 1939 July 18 Itinerary Paterson, 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash. 1 Oncopycs leucostator 1 Dermopus maniculatus. (P.M.) Rowed boat over to Blalock Island in company with Wm. Longhurst. Hiked around East end of the island. Blalock Island, 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash. The island is a large remnant of resistant lava rock in the middle of the Columbia. It is about 8 mi. in length and 2 1/2 mi. in width. Only the east end on the north side of the island was covered. Lava rock and sand form the soil cover and vegetation consists of sagebrush, chest grass, cactus (prickly pear) with willows and some poplars along the edge of the river. The flats at the waters edge support a small amount of coarse, short rush(?) Russian thistle grow near and on some of the sand dunes. 4R Mouse traps were set out 20 faces apart and then we returned to camp. Blalock Island, 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash. (J.M.) Rowed back over to Island and picked up traps. Results - July 19
