hathin, J.E. 1939 Itinerary July 17 Paterson 250 ft., Benton Co., Wash. cheat grass and Russian thistle. Between 8:45 and 9:15 P.M. 24 Scaphiopus were caught in a pond along the edge of the river. The pond was shallow and surrounded by willows on 2 sides and the river and a gravel bar on the other side. Coarse grass or edge was growing in and along the edges of the pond. The toads were numerous and could be found sitting at the edge of the pond in the wet grass or in very shallow water. Breeding is in progress as angelfus was noted in 2 cases. Voice or sound made by the toads resembles neither that made by Hyla or Rana but is a high harsh note which is fairly prolonged. When caught and placed in a reptile bag, the toads utter short croaks which resembles very much the notes made by young chickens. July 18 - Picked up traps - Results 38 Perognathus parvus 2♂ 17♀ 3♀ Reithrodontomy megalotis 1♂ Mus musculus
