Chattin J.E. 1939 Itinerary Twin Buttes 4300 ft, Skamania Co, Wash. July 12 (7:40 A.M.) Trap results 3 Peromyscus 2♀/♂ 1 Zapus. ♂ 2 Aplodontia traps sprung - 1 contained a claw. - Longhurst caught 1 Sorex hendiri + 1 Clethrionomys + 3 Sorex obscurus? 5 voles (?), also some Peromyscus & Zapus. (11 A.M.) Set out 2 gopher sets and 2 rat traps in grassy land in saddle between Twin Buttes. (12:30 P.M.) Caught ♀ Thomomys talpoides (7:30 P.M.) Went deer hunting this afternoon with Wm Longhurst. Sign fairly plentiful - Longhurst saw large buck late in P.M. but unable to get a shot at it due to heavy timber. At 5:45 P.M. while returning to set some traps I shot a large ♀ porcupine. The animal when first seen was sitting near the middle of a very large fallen log partly covered with branches of younger trees surrounding it, the animal was motionless and I approached to within about 10 ft...
