Hatter J.E. 1939 July 4 (cont) Itinerary Columbia R. 300ft - John Day R. Williams Co Ore 1 ♂ Reithrodontomy along graze patch 1 ♂ Peromyscus along alfalfa patch 1 ♀ Thomomy in alfalfa field. - Returning from trap line in A.M. 2 gopher traps were set in alfalfa field in sandy soil (very loose). During setting of traps L.Trevor plant 2 Citellus lateralis along rock slide beneath canyon rim of the Columbia river. July 4-6 P.M. - Columbia R. 300ft, 2 mi. WSCW. Rufus Sherman Co Oregon. Picked up 2 gopher traps mentined above in which were caught 2 gophers. Walked up along talus slopes beneath canyon (limestone) and picked up cranium of a porcupine (no lower jaw could be found). July 5 Brooks Meadow 4300ft. 9 mi. ENE Mt Hood Hood River Co Oregon. Broke camp at mouth of Beechutes river late in A.M. - Travelled along highway 30 westward to Hood River, turned south on highway 35 at Hood River and travelled up Hood River canyon. Turned off main highway and travelled up dirt road to Brooks Meadow.
