abundant. Bromus sp? is the common grass found growing in the sagebrush.
The valley floor is fairly level with occasional dry washes extending thru it from the sidehills. The hillsides of the valley have a fairly steep slope. The soil is hard and fairly well packed. Rock outcrops of lava occur at intervals. Sagebrush and western juniper and 2 or 3 species of bunch grass form the vegetative cover. Above the sloping hillsides there is a rimrock of lava which forms a straight sided rock wall.
The height of the plateau in which the valley is cut from the river bottom is approximately 800 ft. - Birds observed about the locality include: Turkey Vulture, Western Red-tailed Hawk, Sparrow Hawk Horned Owl, Kingfisher, Cliff Swallows Bank Swallow (?)
At 8:30 P.M. June 29 40 yds from the mouth of Bear Creek a tree toad (Hyla regilla) was caught and preserved.
