I Chatterii 1939 Itinerary June 28 (cat) 11 mi. N.E Weed, Siskiyou Co., Calif. Beginning to show on the wings, back and head. Eyes of the young birds are closed and they are quiet and entirely motionless except for respiration movements. The birds are exposed to the direct light of the sun but would be shaded in the afternoon by a small sagebrush about 6 in. distant. June 29 Crooked R. 3400 ft. at mouth of Bear Cr., Crook Co., Oregon The party left site 11 mi. N.E Weed at 8:00 A.M. Travelling northward along U.S. highway 97. At 8:10 A.M. 16 mi. N.E Weed a Mountain Bluebird flew across the road. At 8:15 A.M. in Grass lake valley several Oregon ground squirrels were observed at the roadside. 21 mi. from Weed several Golden-mantled ground squirrels were observed running across the road. Several others were dead on the road. 1/4 mi. N of Warden Ore. a colony of Bank Swallows was observed in a bank of gray gravel west of the highway. Following an up highway 97. three Klamath Falls, three Bend to Redmond the party turned onto highway 27 and travelled eastward to Prineville. From here a gravelled road was followed southeastward to the present locality.
