Chattin 1939 Itinerary 11 mi. NE Weed, P.O., Siskiyou Co., Calif. June 25 cont. is pale green to yellow probably due to lack of moisture. Ribes sp? - currant also present. Shortly after arrival 25 traps were set out in a N-S line along three the gagbrush and three a small group of young yellow jine. 11 of the traps were sprung but only 1 specimen was taken - 1 adult ? Dipodomys heermanni Several small brown bats (Myotis sp?) were observed after sundown June 27. Birds observed or heard singing in the locality include Rock Wren, Western Meadowlark, Spotted Towhee, Chipping Sparrow, Lewis Woodpecker, Poorwill - The nest of the Poorwill was located in which there were 2 young birds. The parent bird flew up and then disappeared in the gagbrush a short distance away. The nest is a slightly hollowed depression in the fine dry sandy dust. Fragments of rotten wood from a nearby log are scattered about with which the color of the young birds blents very well. Young birds are covered with fine brownish colored down.
