Itinerary
Old Fort Clatsop, 100 ft., Clatsop Co., Oregon
burrows and surface runs beneath Carex
and Xerophyllum. Ground is level and moist.
Aug 23 a.m. Traps were inspected and reset. Traps
in riverbottom contained 1 Neurotrichus
(caught beneath Carex in same trap in which
2 others have been caught previously), & 1
Microtus townsendii. Traps in sedge contained
3 Microtus oregoni & 1 Zapus.- 1 Estamiás was
shot from dead limb of Sitka spruce.

p.m. 20 more traps were beneath Carex
in underground burrows). 1 Sorex bendirii
was caught during day in underground
burrow beneath sedge.
Aug 24 a.m. Inspected and reset traps. Traps in river
bottom contained 1 Sorex trowbridgii. Traps set
beneath Carex contained 1 Sorex trowbridgii, 3 Sorex
vagrans, 1 Zapus, 1 Sorex obscurus and 2 Neurotrichus.
p.m. Built a small seine and seined small pond
about 100 yds West of fort site. Adult Triturus
similans and Anceides were catalogued. Larvae
of both kinds were preserved but uncatalogued.
Aug 25 am Inspected and reset traps. Traps in river
bottom contained 4 Microtus oregoni. Traps set
beneath Carex contained 3 Sorex vagrans, 1 Zapus,
2 Peromyscus, 1 Sorex bendirii & 3 Microtus oregoni.
Total of 7 Microtus caught is of interest and may
possibly be due to slight rain which fell
