Itinerary
Old Fort Clatsop, 100 ft. Clatsop Co. Oregon
the low land just above high tide
level. The tide is effective in the Lewis
and Clark river at this point and rises
about 4-6 ft. Land back from river
is timbered with Sitka spruce hemlock,
and some cedar in moist spots. Alder
is also present in lower land and creek
bottoms. Salal and braken form the
main ground cover where such is present.
At 8:10 p.m. a Myotis was shot flying 16-18ft
above ground.
Aug. 18 a.m. - Mouse traps were inspected and
reset. They contained 1 Neurotrichus and
2 Sorex trowbridgii. Steel traps contained
1 Aplodontia (2 more being sprung), 1 Eutamias
was shot with .38.
p.m. 50 traps were set along banks of
small stream and in boggy area around
Lewis and Clark spring within 100 yds. of
Old fort site. Soil is wet and boggy and
vegetation is "bent grass" (in pastures) and
Comas and Xerophyllum in boggy areas.
- Traps set in bottomland were looked
at. 2 Micotus and 2 Sorex trowbridgii were
caught. 20 more traps were put out
in this same area of bottomland.
At 7:40 p.m. - 2 Myotis were shot flying 18ft ±
