Itinerary
2 hrs. SE Chisak, 10 ft., Pacific Co., Wash.
Aug.13 rebaiting. Catch consisted of 1 Sorex trowbridgii,
2 Neurotrichos - (1 caught in underground burrow
beneath Carex, the other caught by tail along
side of fallen log in heavy stand of Xersphyllum,
1 Microtus oregoni [caught in Xersphyllum on surface
of ground). - 3 Zapus. (caught in excavated
burrows beneath Carex) - 1 Eutamias
torrensii was caught in rat trap. Steel
sets were untouched. - 1 Sciurus douglasii
was shot from top of 25 ft. Sitka spruce.
p.m. - Trap line inspected again at 4:00 p.m.
a trap in excavated underground burrow
contained a Sorex bendirii. 8 steel traps
were set in Aplodontia burrows. Traps
were set in and along an old road thru
apparently virgin small stand of Sitka
spruce. Animals are working in mellow
loamy soil covered with "sword fern".
Surface trails and trails along cut
bank are more numerous than those
seen previously. Weather today was
clear and warm with moderate dew
on vegetation in early morning.
Aug.14 - a.m. - Inspected traps and rebaited and reset
sprung traps. Catch consisted of 3 young Zapus,
3 Peromyscus, 2 Sorex trowbridgii, 2 Neurotrichus
(caught beneath Carex in burrows), 2 Microtus
