Chattin. J. 1940 Itinerary 2 1/2 mi. SE Chinook, 10ft, Pacific Co., Wash in large - broad-leaved maple. Aug 10 (cbdtd) p.m. Traps were reset - 1 Sorex vagrans was caught. - 2 Sciurus [illegible] were shot at base of large Sitka spruce (13' x 12'). - ? was shot 1st and ? remained at base of tree and was shot a few seconds later. p.m. 2 more steel sets were made for Hypodontia Aug. 11 - a.m. Trap line was inspected and traps reset. Catch in mouse traps consisted of 2 Sorex vagrans, 2 Sorex trowbridgii, 2 Neurotichus (1 caught in drying grass at edge of blackberry thicket, the other in heavy stand of Xerophyllum on moist humus soil). 6 Zapus were caught in traps set in excavated burrows in heavy stand of Carex. - 1 Neotoma cinerea was caught in #2 steel trap. Rat was caught by head at eye level. - At 4 mi. NW Chinook, 10ft., in p.m. - 25 small mouse traps were set in burrows in wet mucky soil for Microtus. Land is flat with small tidal sloughs cutting back from the river. Vegetation is Xerophyllum and Bermuda(?) grass. Surface runs were scarce, and no very fresh sign was noted. 1 #9 jump trap was set in fresh mustial run. Aug. 12 - a.m. Inspected trap line and reset traps. Catch in mouse traps consisted of 1 juvenile Peromyscus, 1 Sorex vagrans, 1 Sorex obscurus, 1 Sorex
