Chatting 1946 Itinerary 2 1/2 mi. SE Chinook, 10 ft., Pacific Co. Washington. Aug. 8 (contd) frowbridgii, 2 juvenile Zapus, 1 Microtus. p.m. - 40 more mouse traps were set in excavated burrows beneath large bunches of Carex and grass. Aug.9-a.m. Trap line inspected and traps reset. 1 Sciurus douglasii and 1 Lepus washingtonii were shot. The squirrel was shot as it was cutting down cones at top of 30 ft. Sitka spruce. Rabbit was shot at edge of blackberry thicket. Catch in mouse traps consisted of 1 Sorex ob-scurus?, 4 Zapus, 1 Microtus, 2 Eutamias townsendii, and 7 Peromyscus. p.m. - 35 more mouse traps were set out near edge of small trickle of water, (possibly drainage from previous rain) - 4 steel sets were made and 3 were baited with part of rabbit body. 1 was set in Aplodontia burrow. Aug 10- a.m. Traps were inspected and reset. Steel traps contained 1 Eutamias, 1 Lepus and 1 Aplodontia. - Mouse traps contained 10 Peromyscus, 4 Sorex vagrans, 1 Sorex frowbridgii, 1 Sorex obscurus, 1 Sorex bendirii (caught in an excavated run beneath ground at least 50-60yds from running water, but beneath redges), 6 Zapus, 2 Eutamias, 1 Microtus oregonus(?) - 1 Sciurus douglasii was shot.
