Itinerary
2 1/2 mi. S E Chinook 10ft Pacific Co. Washington,
where we arrived at 6 p.m. A slight rain
was falling and no traps were set
out. Camp was made near beach in
an abandoned house owned by a Mr.
Mc Gowan;
Aug. 7. - 2 m. - put up specimens carried over from
yesterday.
p.m. - Set out 45-50 mouse traps and 10
rat traps baited with walnuts and set
10-20 ft. apart. Line was run three patches
of Carex and Xero phylum in bottomland
on soil which was moist but not
soggy. Traps were set in large runs
and along edges of fallen logs. Rat traps
were placed in the line at points where
Sciurus workings were observed. 2 young
Lepus washingtonii were shot along an old
logging trail almost obscured by 2nd
growth of brush and young alder and
bracken and sword ferns. A weasel was
seen running thru heavy grass and then
into cover of blackberry thicket. 5 Shyler
rat traps were set at edge of thicket and
were baited with parts of Newtons body.
Aug. 8. a.m. - Trap line was inspected and traps
were reset. Catch consisted of 6 Porongseus
1 Sorex obscurus 3 Sorex vagrans and 2 Sorex
