3 mi. NE Tumtum Mtn. 700 ft., Clark Co. Washington
Aug. 4 (cont)
p.m. - With Russell, hiked to above locality with intentions of setting rat traps for Neotoma. To reach this locality eve crossed Canyon Creek below camp and drove up road taking right hand turn and going to ranch of V. Graves. From the ranch a trail leads down around the lower end of a large cliff with rock slide to cabin directly above the creek. Conies were heard calling so we stopped to hunt. 4 Rat traps were set in mossy trails near edge of slide.
Aug 5 a.m. Returned to rock slide. 1 juvenile Neotoma was caught in rat trap. 1 Ochotona and 1 Sciurus hudsonicus were shot at this time. 10 rat traps were set - 5 in an abandoned cabin near Canyon Creek and 5 in trails in moss in rock slide. Traps were baited with dried apricots.
Aug 6 - a.m. Picked up rat traps which contained 1 adult Neotoma. 2 more Conies were shot in the rock slide. 1 Myotis was shot last night at 8:05 p.m. - at 3 1/2 mi. E & 5 mi. N Yacolt, 500 ft. - See W.C. Russell's notebook for map of localities in Clark Co., Washington.
