Chattai J. 1940 Itinerary 3 1/2 mi. E and 5 mi. S Yacolt Clark Co. Washington 50oft. with walnuts were set around edge of a small pond at 1 1/2 mi. W Yacolt, 800ft, Clark Co. Wash. - Grass and sedges bordered the pond and traps were set in faint runway. 43 steel traps were set by the 4 of us (Davis, Russell and Sibley and I) in Aplodontia burrows. Signs of "beaver" appeared plentiful and by the time the last trap was set 3 animals had been caught in traps set only 30 min. or so earlier. Aug. 1 a.m. Aplodontia traps contained 8 more animals bringing total to 11. Mouse traps contained 1 Sorex vagrans [?], 1 Zapus, 1 Microtus and 2 juvenile Peromyscus. p.m. Steel sets were inspected and 2 more Aplodontia taken. 1 Microtus was caught in mouse traps. 25 or 30 more small traps were set out farther down the creek in grass, sedges, and young alder. At 8:10 p.m. a bat was shot, but could not be found in brush. Aug 2- a.m. - Steel traps were removed from Aplodontia burrows and 4 animals were caught. Mouse traps were also removed and 3 Zapus and 1 Peromyscus were caught. In p.m. 50 traps were set in thick grass, sedges, and willows along boggy ground and near edges of spring and creek in natural
