Itinerary
18 1/2 mi. NW Portland, Washington Co., Oregon
July 27 set along creek thru burned and logged area
(Cont.) were taken up thus leaving about 80 traps
out in meadow and dry creek bed. At 8:20 p.m.
8 Myotis was shot flying in clearing near creek.
July 28 - a.m. 80 traps left out overnight and during yesterday
were picked up, yielding 2 Sorex and 29 Mus
musculus. Steel sets for Hylodontia were also
picked up and camp was moved to
3 1/2 mi. E and 5 mi. N Yacolt, 500 ft., Clark Co., Washington.
where we arrived at 5 p.m. - Camp was
made in clearing between Canyon Creek
and Tum-tum mts. on edge of "closed area"
of national forest. The west slope of the
mountain has been completely logged off
and is overgrown with Vine maple, broken
thimbleberry, blackberry and young alder.
70 traps were set out around the edge
of the clearing near camp. Traps were
baited with raisins and set 3-6 yds
apart. Saw 1 young Peromyscus and 1 Clethrion-
omys while setting traps.
July 29 - a.m. Traps inspected and reset and left
in same places. 1 Sorex and 3 Peromyscus
were caught in traps and 2 Eutamias
were shot. During most of the day a
moderate rain fell beginning about 2:30 a.m.
and continuing until evening. In p.m.
