Chattin\n1940\n\nitinerary\n\nJuly 22 (cont)\n18 1/2 mi. NW Portland, 1300ft. Washington Co. Oregon\nnear the edge of the creek also at about noon.\np.m - Set out 40 traps along creek bottom\nin stand of virgin timber - Douglas fir,\nRed Cedar, and Hemlock. Traps were baited\nwith peanut butter and placed 3-8 yds. apart.\nHeavy cover of fallen needles and moss\ncovers the creek bottom which is\nin deep shade throught the day. - After\nsupper I shot a Myotis flying above creek\nat height of about 20 ft. at 8:15 p.m.:-\nJuly 23\na.m. - Inspection of traps left in old\nburned over area yielded 4 Peromyscus\n(2 ♂ - 2 ♀) and 1 young ♂ Microtus sp.? (same\nca I caught yesterday).- - 50 traps set along\ncreek bottom in tall timber yielded\nnothing. - Only 3 were sprung but containe\nd no mice. - Numerous runs and burrows\nthru the needles are present but may be\nunoccupied at present. 2 Sciurus douglasii\nwere shot before breakfast at heights of\n15-25 ft. in young stands of Douglas fir.\np.m.- Picked up the 100 traps set in burned\nlogged area catching 2 Estomias founsettii\n(1 ♂ 1 ♀) and 1 ♀ Citellus beechgyi. 75 of the\ntraps were realt along the creek bottom\nin logged area.
