Itinerary
July 21
18 1/2 mi. NW Portland, 1300 ft., Washington Co., Oregon.
Left Berkeley Calif. at 6:00 am July 20
with Ward C. Russell in '39 Dodge truck
and drove to near Drain, Oregon where we
spent the night. In a.m (July 21) we drove
on into Portland, arriving around 11 a.m.
Took highway U.S. 30 out of Portland to [illegible]
and turned left on "Rocky Point" road
6 mi. E of Beavose. Arrived at present
locality in early afternoon and set up
camp about 1/2 mi. E of the Dudley ranch.
During the afternoon I set out 100 mouse
traps spaced 4-10 yds. apart. Trap line
was set along edge of cleared land
and then three center of cleared land
down to creek. About 20 traps were
set along the creek and then the
line cut back into cleared land
again. The surrounding country has
in general been heavily logged off and
few small stands of Douglas fir and
cedar are left. Almost all of the
cleared or logged land has been burned
over and fairly thick brush is
growing among stumps and fallen
logs. Brush covering these clearings
is made up of stands of young
alder and wine maple. Other
