Chattin J. 1940 Itinerary July 21 18 1/2 mi. NW Portland, 1300 ft., Washington Co., Oregon. Left Berkeley Calif. at 6:00 am July 20 with Ward C. Russell in '39 Dodge truck and drove to near Drain, Oregon where we spent the night. In a.m (July 21) we drove on into Portland, arriving around 11 a.m. Took highway U.S. 30 out of Portland to [illegible] and turned left on "Rocky Point" road 6 mi. E of Beavose. Arrived at present locality in early afternoon and set up camp about 1/2 mi. E of the Dudley ranch. During the afternoon I set out 100 mouse traps spaced 4-10 yds. apart. Trap line was set along edge of cleared land and then three center of cleared land down to creek. About 20 traps were set along the creek and then the line cut back into cleared land again. The surrounding country has in general been heavily logged off and few small stands of Douglas fir and cedar are left. Almost all of the cleared or logged land has been burned over and fairly thick brush is growing among stumps and fallen logs. Brush covering these clearings is made up of stands of young alder and wine maple. Other
