Chattin 8 1940 Itinerary Jan. 16 (cont'd) about 300 yds. Approached to within 150 yd or so by running and then shot the largest ? the 2's - once three foreleg and 2nd shot thru midsection. Remainder ? herd ran on back up the next wash. Longhairs shot 3 point buck and a doe about 15 minutes later (3:30 P.M.) 1 1/2 mi, or so away - (evidently from the same group). Returned to camp and transported all 3 deer to camp about 50 yds from where 1st deer was killed. Jan. 17 - A.M. - Spent skinning deer, P.M. - moved camp and drove to Niland where we spent the night. Jan. 18, - 180 ft.; 1 1/2 mi. W Niland, Imperial Co. Calis. A.M. - I set out 11 gopher sets along canal bank and in abandoned field. Soil light mellow sandy loam. Bermuda grass & Arrow weed vegetation along banks ? canal.
