Crooked R., 3400 ft., at mouth of Bear Creek, Crook Co., Oregon
June 29 - 1 specimen taken in mouse trap in sandy soil 6 ft. from edge of road.
Trap set at mouth of burrow about 2 ins. in diameter. Trap was carried about 6 ft. but traced three feet.
Signs of burrows & tailmarks plentiful in soft sandy soil on flats along edges of Crooked river.
July 19 Block Island, 250 ft., 2 mi. SW Paterson, Benton Co., Wash.
1 Specimen taken in sandy soil near lava outcrop. trap set near large sagebrush.
Sex could not be determined as animal had been split down left side and viscera and leg muscles eaten away by some animal. Tail and hind legs were neatly skinned out and fleshed partly. Trap had been moved a short distance (3 ft.)
2 1/2 mi. SW Irrigon, 300 ft., Morrow Co., Oregon
July 20 - 1st specimen caught in trap in fairly hard soil beneath sagebrush. No mouth of burrow noted in immediate vicinity
2 mi. SSE Burbank, 350 ft., Walla Walla Co., Wash.
July 24 & specimens taken in 50 traps set in loose sand with cover of sagebrush and cheatgrass.
1 specimen had been partially swallowed by snake and carried about 2 ft. from set.
