J. Chatten Thomomys talpoides July 2 Columbia R., 300ft, at mouth of Deschutes R., Sherman Co., Oregon 2 & 5 specimens caught in pasture in moist soil & loose loam. Soil is covered with sod in places and Timothy and weeds in others. Gopher mounds are numerous. July 2 3 more gophers caught in same pasture July 3 3 " " " " " " one gopher was partially swallowed by Pituophis catenifer. Snake started swallowing at head of gopher and had proceeded until encountering trap in which gopher was held. July 4 Columbia R., 300ft, at mouth of John Day R., Gilliam Co., Oregon 1 gopher caught in hard soil containing rocks in dry alfalfa field. Caught July 3 shortly after setting trap (i.e. within 1 1/2 hrs). Another specimen caught in same field in A.M. July 4 July 4 Columbia R. 300ft, 2 mi WSW Rufus, Sherman Co., Oregon 2 specimens caught in cultivated alfalfa field in very loose sandy soil. Burrows seem smaller than in more consistent soils. July 25 7 mi. E and 5mi. S Dixie, 4300ft, Walla Walla, Wash. 3 Thomomys talpoide caught in gen clearing in grassy situation (slosh grass) Soil moist and firm.
