June 30 Crooked R. 3400 ft, 9 1/2 mi. S.E. Prineville Crook Co., Oreg.
A Marmot picked up at side of road dead with skull crushed, possibly by passing auto. Another larger Marmot was observed going up the hillside, a lava rock slope, near the edge of a field of cultivated alfalfa.
July 15 Maryhill, 200 ft., Klickitat Co., Wash.
8:30 A.M. - observed small Marmot going into hole in base of lava rimrock at top of large talus slope. Vegetation for 50 yds only of dry cheat grass. Some green bullows along river bank at greater distance.
July 23 1 mi. N Burbank 350 ft., Walla Walla Co., Wash.
7:30 A.M. - 3 Marmots seen at edge of large pile of driftwood at edge of cultivated field of alfalfa. 1 Marmot was shot but was not recovered since it crawled beneath the wood pile. 3 traps 2 no 0 + 1 1 1/2 were set and later in the morning a young Marmot was caught in a no. 0 trap.
