Oct 30 drinkable without purification tablets.
Common diseases: T.B. (hepatitus) and amoebic dysentery. Stapholoccus infections are common with cuts etc.
Food is bought in quantity transported here by boat it is cheaper than buying it in Darien.
Coca-Cola is everywhere (frequently cold) if one doesn't want to drink town water.
Gem told the liquor is terrible. Cheap ask Peace Corps missionaries for help.
One can buy good fresh bread early in the morning in small towns. If you were the kids of the town or "monte" & help collect bring lots of rubber tubing, $15-$ per foot if you buy 50 feet at one time. Get this in Panama City.
After landing in El Real we went up the Rio Pirre (visited an Indian family).
We used machete several times to cut path through fallen trees in the river.
We got to Yodija (after rain) in time for dinner. The kids brought # 910 - 917 from town.
Oct 31 # 918 was found in the little stream in town. Tried to force fed him but he would not so he is now a specimen. # 918 - 924 are all from town
