Sept 27 The #598 & the
#599 were bought to us by a little Runtux. One of Peter's Indian friends came to visit & guide. He was going up river we offered him a ride. While we were waiting for a snake someone wanted to sell. I took a flute like object off the wall & tried to play it. Could get no sound. I asked him he said that he had forgotten, but when he played I couldn't believe my ears. I'm almost certain it was a Bach flute. The snake never arrived so we left for the river. Then we got 3 more Indians who wanted a ride.
The piragua was heavy because of all the baggage, people & another piragua which we had inside Peter's. About an hour up the river I spotted 2 little fat sticking up out of the water - Co dead #600
Put it in the front seat & sitting half way back we could hardly brace.
Shortly after we dropped off the Indians & headed for halfway between mouthg Portuguese & No Baugti the still had a very bad odor. Lots of little farms on the way up. Very few birds - I was surprised! All the Indians were friendly toward others. The sun was hot but when the boat was moving
