August 21 we came just outside San Jose. Heavy Rain
Packed some birds to mail. For mailing
details see Mercedes One Dearmids' notes.
(permits for import, export, collecting etc.)
August 22 Since I didn't have a collecting permit
we decided not to ship anything in my
name. They asked for collecting permit.
August 25 Villa Milla 5.1 mi SE Cerro de la muerte, Cartago Prov.
August 25 In clear weather we left San Jose at *9 AM,
took Pan American Hwy 2 through Cartago on
to Cerro de la Muerte. The drive took
about 2 1/2-3 hours. We had rain & some
cold as we neared the summit. Heavy
rain in the afternoon. Finally @ 4 1/5 it
stopped raining. Cold outside but OK in the 31.
traps anyway - Expected rain the entire time
but it stayed clear. After the traps I shot
a
#177. It was too dark to skin.
August 26 got 2 mice - one at base of tree other under
pile of thin sticks & new brush. Used
peanut butter for bait. Clear morning, cool
but not cold. Shot #5 178, 179, 180, & 181 too

of the same feeding w/ trees. None were

spend time hopping on the ground as well as
climbing in trees. The
