Son Buckholtz & I made the trip today
in search of the foothill yellowlegged frog?
to generally look over the area for further
field work. We stopped at a number of places.
1) Moccasin Creek - just at the State
Fish Hatchery just off Rte 120. The main
portion of the creek is too rapid flowing
for R. boylei but one of the side
branches looked possible. Riparian
situation, ~1000'. Spent from 8:45AM -> 10:30AM.
walking down side branch of creek.
Nothing seen or heard (except birds).
Dam. veg. along banks = blackberries, not
quite ripe yet.
2) Middle Fork Suolumne River in vicinity of
Oakland Recreation Camp - across road from
Monroe's (?) Camping site - where were saw.
cabins etc. Spent ~ 11:30AM -> 1:30 P.M.
walking upstream. Made one capture,
heard a couple more young individuals.
Since it was really warm we decided to
eat lunch, go up to Mather and look
around and come back to this site
later in the day.
3) Mather - Bird Lake - (posted) - lot
of campers swimming. Just walked
