Rana muscosa

Calf. Tuolumne Co., Lukenslake, YNP, etc.
4 Sept (cont)
A number of tadpoles were seen in this area
of lake. Were very wary and at the slightest
disturbance would move away & bury
into the silt (in which they were almost
impossible to find). After much work
caught 5 tads. Left the rest to become
happy adults.
Calif: Tuolumne Co., unnamed ck from Lukenslake,
~0.5 mi from lake towards White Wolf campg,
near bk of trail for Lukens lake's

ck ~ 50 ft from trail so decided to see
if anything there. Spotted individual sitting
on gravel "sandbar". He jumped into H2O
and hit under algal covered rock from
which he was retrieved. Stream w
no gradient but ran slowly / quietly.
Small stm, only 1-2 ft across & only
~ 1ft deep.
California: El Dorado Co., Tamarack lake T , B17 E

f'd only juveniles out. Most w/in small
area of lake near outlet. Suspect is where
muscosa usually breeds, or at least where
young all congregate since is where I have
almost always fd tads.
